Residential Property Organisations unite to urge adoption of Unique Property Reference Numbers

Today Advice for Renters, together with another 52 leading property organisations have co-signed a letter urging the widespread adoption of Unique Property Reference Numbers.

At Advice for Renters we firmly believe the universal adoption of UPRNs would be an important step in professionalising the private rented sector, improving the quality of private rented homes and helping to hold landlords to account.

We are at an important juncture entering 2021, with thousands of vulnerable tenants at risk of eviction from their privately rented homes due to COVID-19 related rent arrears, and consequently being pushed into the hands of unscrupulous rogue landlords.

As the country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, we have the option to choose a fairer, more equal recovery, and UPRNs can make a real contribution to this.

UPRN’s have the power to drive rogue landlords out of the market entirely, go some way to redress the landlord tenant power imbalance and to help us all recognise that safe, secure housing should be a fundamental human right.
