An Open Letter to PM Rishi Sunak: Renters’ Reform Bill

On 26 July 2023, Advice for Renters joined other organisations and charities in signing an open letter to the Prime Minister. Alongside our colleagues, we urge Rishi Sunak to prioritise the plight of millions of renters and speed up the passing of the Renters’ Reform Bill.

It has been more than two months since the Bill was first introduced to Parliament. It is a vital piece of legislation which will provide renters with much-needed security, something which this current system does not provide. It has the potential to positively change the landscape of the Private Rented Sector for 11 million renters across England by banning Section 21 evictions. At the moment, tenants have no protections against ‘no fault’ eviction notices and they are a significant contributing factor in increasing homelessness rates.

We are proud to be part of the Renters’ Reform Coalition and call on the Bill to be strengthened and passed with urgency. Now more than ever, we need the Government to act on the promises they made four years ago.
